President-elect Barack Obama ’91 tapped Professor Cass R. Sunstein ’75 to serve as his regulatory czar Thursday, January 8. The post is relatively obscure but packs significant power, with the ability to oversee the administration’s entire regulatory regime. Cass Sunstein, an expert on risk and regulation, joined the faculty only last year. It is unclear whether he, like departing Dean Elena Kagan ’86, who was recently named the Obama administration’s Solicitor General, will take a leave of absence from teaching.
