Dear Editor,
The Save Toby website has been mentioned a few times in the Record recently. The website operators purportedly threaten to kill a rabbit if the site doesn’t raise $50,000 in donations by June 30.
What has not been mentioned is that the Save Toby website is a hoax. Please see the Snopes entry at: http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/savetoby.asp. It is just a spin-off of the famous January 1973 cover of National Lampoon, which declared “If you don’t buy this magazine, we’ll kill this dog.”
By the way, I will refuse to take my spring finals if I don’t receive $5.00 in donations by May 1.
