My thanks to some of our veterans of military service here on campus for bringing a few inaccuracies in last week’s review of Jarhead to light. First, Swofford was not a Lt. Cpl., he was a Lance Corporal (LCpl.). Second, Troy’s breakdown came at the expense of a senior officer issuing him a command, not his technical “commanding officer.” Finally, the people mentioned in the review as “Iraqi civilians” were not in fact civilians – they were Iraqi soldiers fleeing Kuwait in civilian vehicles along the “Highway of Death,” though the film went out of its way to make them appear victims of slaughter.
