First-year law student Gregory Tang ’13 died suddenly on Monday, according to law school administrators.
Dean Martha Minow informed the law school community of Tang’s death via e-mail on Tuesday. Tang participated in the Journal of Law & Technology, the JOLT Digest, and the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, according to the e-mail. He was a member of Section One.
“In his short time here, Gregory Tang added astute, well-grounded legal judgment to our community and, more importantly, always did so with good humor and respect for others,” Section Leader John Manning ‘85 said in a statement. “We will miss him sorely.”
Tang was a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Michigan and received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford. He worked as an engineer before entering law school, according to Minow’s e-mail.
Law school administrators plan to hold an event to celebrate his life in the coming weeks. In a second e-mail sent on Tuesday, Dean of Students Ellen Cosgrove asked students interested in planning a memorial service to e-mail her. The Dean of Students Office will also accept sympathy cards from students and forward them to Tang’s family, Cosgrove said.
“This is terribly sad news,” Cosgrove said in the e-mail. “I want to emphasize that we are here to assist in any way we can.”
