While the transition of power has presented opportunities for HLS faculty members to serve in high level government posts, it may result in at least a few returning to the institution. Professor Mary Ann Glendon recently resigned her post as the Bush administration’s ambassador to the Vatican, in customary anticipation of her replacement by an individual chosen by the new President. She has said that she plans to have returned to teaching at HLS by the beginning of this semester, and is working on a new book about notable individuals who have been engaged in both philosophy and politics.
Stanford’s Lawrence Lessig is also set to rejoin the HLS faculty, but will not be teaching until at least the fall semester.
