Slaughter to State Department
Former HLS professor Anne-Marie Slaughter ’85, Dean of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, has been selected for a top State Department post in the Obama administration. Slaughter, who taught at the law school from 1988-89 and from 1994 until 2002, also has a doctorate in international relations from Oxford.
Her tenure at Princeton has been somewhat controversial; she had been accused of biased scheduling of campus speaking events, hosting a considerable number of Bush administration officials in an apparent bid to obtain a high level government post. Slaughter, who was head of International Legal Studies at HLS from 1997, had also been high on the list of potential replacements for Dean Elena Kagan ’86, who is also moving to D.C. to become Solicitor General. The scholar will serve as the State Department’s director of policy planning, in which position she will head the department’s internal think tank.
Kahn ’91 Selected for Taxpayer Advisory Panel of the IRS
David Kahn ’91 has been selected by the U.S. Treasury Department to serve on the nationwide Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP). Kahn is one of 100 volunteers serving on the panel, which listens to taxpayers and makes suggestions for improving IRS service and customer satisfaction. TAP members devote 300 to 500 hours yearly to the panel and serve a three-year term
