Affinity Groups and Student Orgs Ask HLS for Much-Needed LIPP Reform

On November 28, 2022, a number of Harvard Law School affinity groups and student orgs sent a letter to Dean Manning, Dean Onken, and HLS Administrators, outlining the need for significant reforms to HLS’s post-graduate loan repayment assistance (the Low Income Protection Plan, or LIPP) and demanding that HLS improve that assistance and front-end financial aid.

Reached for comment, Dean Onken noted that she and Kara Martin (associate director of LIPP) had had an in-person meeting with the letter’s organizers after receiving the letter, and added that “[t]hroughout this semester we have had several very thoughtful meetings and conversations about LIPP with this group and we are very grateful for their engagement and the perspectives they have shared.”
