A Record Welcome

The editorial board of the Harvard Law RECORD welcomes the Class of 2011 to the hallowed halls of HLS, and extends a warm hello to the Classes of 2010 and 2009, in particular the loyal readers of the RECORD, who have come to grace us with their presence once more.

The RECORD is the oldest law school newspaper in America, founded in 1946. We are independent of the University and for generations we have sought to expose problems at the Law School. Moreover, in the spirit of the First Amendment, we seek to pursue controversial issues of import to those at HLS and beyond. We have published pieces written by Ralph Nader ’58, William H. Rehnquist, Alan Dershowitz, and Barack Obama ’91, among other notables.

We at the RECORD do not subscribe to any political agenda. We welcome and encourage all viewpoints. To that end, we invite the members of all classes, as well as HLS alumni, to submit pieces to us at record@law.harvard.edu.

We accept all types of writings- from op-eds to movie reviews-and encourage students to submit cartoons, photography, and, if you have special powers, law-related horoscopes.

All HLS students will have complimentary copies of the paper delivered on Thursdays. The point of delivery will be your “Hark Boxes,” which are, incidentally, no longer located in the Hark. For those of you who have yet to find where they went, we’ll give you a clue: they are across the hall from the distribution enter in the basement of Pound Hall.

For those outside the pearly gates, you can read us online at www.hlrecord.org. Each article has a message board where you can debate issues with the decorum expected of HLS students, or take advantage of the anonymity of the Internet to spew venom at a writer who you never really liked. Either way, we’re cool. And for those of you who desire the full RECORD experience, yearly subscriptions are available for $50.

We would also like to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of support from the legal community for our efforts during the year, and, in particular, this Career Guide issue. See their ad. Apply for a job. Become a partner. Place ads in the RECORD. Pretty logical career path, if you ask us. Best wishes to all for the coming year, and thanks again for reading.
