The scholarship platform Bold.org has just announced a new grant for college students interested in on-campus journalism.

The $1,000 Bold.org College Journalism Grant will be awarded to current students to cover the costs of a campus journalism project they propose. Projects may be print, online, video, text, or audio-based.

Example projects include initiatives like a campus radio show, a news film, and more. Applicants are encouraged to think big!

Current students in any undergraduate or graduate program are eligible to apply. Students with any field of study or GPA will be considered.

The application deadline is Feb 28, 2020. The application consists of a proposal that details the project you’d like to pursue and an overview of how you would use the funding.

Successful proposals will explain why the project will be valuable for your student body as a story worth telling. The grant is open to any student who is a current or aspiring journalist, so applicants at any level of experience are encouraged to apply.

The grant was created by Denis Grosz, a technology investor and entrepreneur. Denis strongly believes that robust and accurate journalism is an essential component of a thriving democracy.

Supporting creative, innovative aspiring journalists is especially important at the university level, where a massive 76% of students regularly read their college newspaper.

Despite this, college newspapers face similar challenges to the rest of the news industry as revenue and support decline.

The newly announced Bold.org College Journalism Grant is a step towards bringing more support to campus news organizations and the essential services they provide to students across the country.
