The Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race & Justice hosted a conference at Harvard Law School on October 17 and 18. The conference, titled, “Charting New Pathways to Participation and Membership,” honored Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, Chief Justice Pius Langa of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, and Dolores Huerta, labor activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America, with the Charles Hamilton Houston Justice Award. Professor Emeritus John Hope Franklin of Duke University was also honored in absentia.The award recipients discussed their fight for social justice and concluded with a rousing chant of “Si se puede,” led by Huerta.
