Nesson RIAA Trial Streaming to be Appealed to First Circuit
Judge Nancy Gertner of the Federal District Court for the District of Mass. granted a stay to the Recording Industry Association of America for the First Circuit Court of Appeals to review a decision to allow Prof. Charles Nesson ’63 to webcast courtroom proceedings on the Internet. Prof. Nesson is representing Joel Tenenbaum, a Boston University student who allegedly downloaded seven copyrighted songs using peer-to-peer software.
Marc Dreier ’75 Arrested for Massive Fraud
Dreier L.L.P., a national law firm of more than 250 attorneys, was shattered by the news of its founding partner’s arrest for the execution of a massive securities fraud in which over $400 million of fake debentures were sold to hedge funds. Dreier was the sole equity partner of the firm and handled all executive business independently. He is currently being held in a New York City jail and will face federal charges for wire fraud and securities fraud.
Prof. Ken Gormley ’80 Named Interim Dean of Duquesne Law
Prof. Gormley, an expert in the constitutional dimensions of the Watergate scandal and a native of Pittsburgh, was named the interim Dean of Duquesne Law School following the firing of Duquesne Dean Don Guter by the President of Duquesne University. Guter, a former Navy Judge Advocate General, cited a personal dispute as the reason for his firing.
