RECORD EDITORIAL: In defense of Adam White

RECORD EDITORIAL PAGE Editor and columnist Adam White is publicly defending himself this week against unfounded charges that he may have taken inside information about an upcoming Law Review Note. We believe White effectively defends himself in his column. We want to simply note that it is insulting that a law student would ask another law student to come forward with evidence that he did not plagiarize. It is insulting that the student wishes the burden of evidence to rest on the party being accused, an idea that seems antithetical to our notions of due process, at least in most respects, and especially when dealing with issues of guilt or innocence. Accusations impeaching White’s character, as well as the character of supposed “leakers” within Law Review, should be leveled more carefully and with more evidence than mere similarity. The Record stands by its Editorial Page Editor.
