My thanks to some of our veterans of military service here on campus for bringing a few inaccuracies in last week’s review of Jarhead to light. First, Swofford was not a Lt. Cpl., he was a Lance Corporal (LCpl.). Second, Troy’s breakdown came at the expense of a senior officer issuing him a command, not his technical “commanding officer.” Finally, the people mentioned in the review as “Iraqi civilians” were not in fact civilians – they were Iraqi soldiers fleeing Kuwait in civilian vehicles along the “Highway of Death,” though the film went out of its way to make them appear victims of slaughter. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_of_death for more information on the incident.
